 Hello friends.  My name is Darrell Uhler and, assuming my schedule is correct, which it might not be, I will be teaching your physical-ed.  It would be fantastic if you could include in your opening day newsletter or blog a short blurb about appropriate gym footwear.  Students must wear shoes that have non-slip soles and will stay on their feet while participating in activities.  Crocs, flip flops, boots, and open toed sandals are not appropriate footwear.  If a student does not have the correct footwear they will be asked to sit out of the class for reasons of personal safety.  Thank you for your cooperation.

What did you look like in Grade 2?Becky1. Where are you from?

I grew up on a dairy farm in Howick Township, just outside of Fordwich.  My parents still live there, and my dad has lived in the same house for his whole life!  I live in a house that is just a few blocks from Eastdale, so close that you will see me walking to work every day.

2. How did you start your job?

I started my job by working as a supply teacher while I finished teacher’s college. At that time I taught for both the Huron-Perth Catholic and Avon-Maitland Public School Boards, and I dreamed of teaching at the intermediate level. I have worked in French, English, elementary and highschool settings, and I have taught in Grade 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12, and Kindergarten classrooms.  That sounds impressive when I write it out! When I’d been through every position I could get myself into at every school that would have me, I chose my favorite grades and my favorite school. Primary grades at Eastdale.  I first taught at Eastdale as a music and gym teacher in 2008. 

3. How long did it take you to get where you are?

It is my 30th year of school, and my 12th year of teaching. 

4. Is this where you expected to be when you started working?

No.  I originally wanted to be an environmental auditor, and I got an Honors degree in Environmental Studies before I got my degree in Education.  I also went on to get Specialist Qualifications in Special Education and in Primary Education.

Third things third. This blog: This blog is a place where I will share about what our class learns.  I’ve been using it for several years and if you scroll through the history, you will get a picture of what to expect.  Later in the year, students will be writing on their own school blog.  I hope families will check in here every day to see what we are up to! One of the first things we will learn in September is how our brains learn.  This poster refers to math class, and the concepts pertain to all learning:
